Do you validate parking?

  • Portland and Eugene: Parking is reimbursed at a flat rate. Complete a Parking Certification Form at check-in to be reimbursed.

Do you reimburse for mileage and/or mass transit fees?

Jurors receive roundtrip mileage reimbursement regardless of their method of transportation. The mileage reimbursement can be used to cover the cost of mass transit fees if you do not pay to park.

How long will it take to receive payment for my jury service?

Payments are typically received by jurors between four and six weeks after the trial has ended.

Do I need I.D. or a Real ID to enter the courthouse?

You will need your summons and picture I.D. at the security checkpoint and at the Jury Assembly Room check-in window. A Real ID is not required.

Do I get paid to serve?

Jurors are paid $50.00 per day. Federal government employees are exempt from receiving the attendance fee and must complete a Waiver of Juror Fees and Allowances at check-in.

How long will I be at the Courthouse?

Plan on being available all day the first day, and for several days if selected to serve as a juror.

How long are trials?

Most trials last approximately three to ten days. A trial-length notice is generally included for longer trials.

How do I know if my civil right to serve on a jury has been restored?

If you were convicted of a felony under Oregon law or federal law and have been released from incarceration, or the conviction was set aside, please refer to Or. Rev. Stat. §§ 10.030 and 137.281.

Is there a dress code?

Business casual and layering is recommended.

What can I bring to the courthouse with me?

You may bring beverages, food, and small portable electronics like iPods, cell phones, tablets, laptops, etc.

What can I not bring to the courthouse with me?

Knitting needles, crochet hooks, knives or multi-use tools, embroidery or sewing scissors, letter openers, mace or pepper spray, tools (pliers, wrenches, hammers, etc.), heavy gauge chains, firearms (real or toy), bullets, ammunition.  If you have additional questions about allowable items, please contact the U.S. Marshals Service at 503-326-2209.

Can I lose my job for reporting for jury service?

No. You are protected by federal statute (28 U.S.C. § 1875) from being discharged, intimidated, or coerced by your employer because of your jury service.  An employer violating this statute is subject to: damages to the employee for loss of wages or other benefits; an injunction prohibiting further such violations and providing appropriate relief, including reinstating the employee; a civil penalty of not more than $5,000 for each violation on each employee; and an order to perform community service.  A juror claiming his or her employer violated his or her employment protection rights may apply for appointment of counsel to bring such a claim.  Upon finding probable merit in such a claim, the Court may appoint counsel to represent the juror under 28 U.S.C. § 1875(d).

Will my employer pay me while I am serving jury duty?

Your employer's personnel policies, or the specific employment agreement between you and your employer, will determine whether any compensation is payable to you during jury service. There is no statutory requirement that an employer pay salary or wages during an employee’s jury service.
