Hon. Michael McShane, Chief Judge

Melissa Aubin, Clerk of Court

Jury Evidence Recording System (JERS)

The Jury Evidence Recording System (JERS) was developed by the Western District of North Carolina and allows juries to view electronic evidence during their deliberations.

Prior to trial, parties will be instructed to follow the Submission Requirements for JERS Exhibits and Submission Requirements for Electronic Trial Exhibits.

At the conclusion of the trial and at the Court's direction, exhibits may be released to the jury along with electronic jury instructions and a list of any physical exhibits.

JERS provides easy access to the electronic evidence during deliberations through the use of a touch screen kiosk. Jurors can view the electronic evidence multiple times, rewind videos, and zoom in on pictures. This video tutorial on how to use the system will be played for the jurors.

Questions regarding the submission of trial exhibits may be directed to the judge's courtroom deputy clerk.
