Joseph M. Charter
Biographical Statement
I am a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall) law school. I was admitted to the Oregon Bar in 1991. I have practiced in California, Alaska, and briefly interned in Australia and New Zealand. I have 25 years of civil litigation experience in state and federal trial and appellate courts. Areas of practice have included bankruptcy, real estate, employment, family law, commercial litigation, construction defects, personal injury, administrative, and probate law.
Mediation training was received at Southern Oregon University. I have served as a mediator in the Jackson County Small Claims Court program and as an arbitrator for the Jackson and Josephine County Circuit Courts and the Arbitration Service of Portland. I served as a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee in Southern Oregon from 2011 to 2015. I have served as a Circuit Judge Pro Tem, Jackson County Justice of the Peace (2004-2020), and Circuit Court Judge presiding over juvenile, family law, and probate matters.
