Hon. Michael McShane, Chief Judge

Melissa Aubin, Clerk of Court

In March of this year, the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon experienced the loss of two of its esteemed judges, Hon. Robert E. Jones and Hon. Malcolm F. Marsh (retired).

After a distinguished career in private practice, Judge Marsh served as a U.S. District Judge for the District of Oregon from 1987 until 1998, when he elected senior status.  He remained in service to the Court for more than two decades after.  Judge Marsh was known as a highly skilled and respected attorney, a fair-minded and trusted judge, and a warm and exceptionally loyal friend.  He passed away at the age of 96 on March 15, 2025.

Judge Jones served as a U.S. District Judge for the District of Oregon from 1990 until his death at 97 years old, on March 29, 2025.  He elected senior status in 2000.  Judge Jones’ career included service with the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, Oregon House of Representatives, Multnomah County Circuit Court, and Oregon Supreme Court.  He was deeply loved and respected by his colleagues, members of the bar, his students, and unbounded circles of family and friends.

The Court is strengthened by the examples of these two extraordinary judges.  Their influence abides in the work and community they so loved.
