Hon. Michael McShane, Chief Judge

Melissa Aubin, Clerk of Court

Follow all instructions on the violation notice. Look at Box A and Box B on the notice.

Important Parts of the Violation Notice

  1. Box A – Appearance is Required
If Box A is checked on the violation notice, a court appearance is mandatory. The CVB will issue a notice to appear to you 30 days before your scheduled hearing by mail with the date, time, and location of your hearing.
  2. Box B – Appearance is Optional
If Box B is checked on the violation notice, you must either pay the total collateral OR appear in court. If you pay the amount of the total collateral prior to your court date, no court appearance is necessary. You may also attempt to negotiate the ticket or the amount of total collateral prior to a court hearing, but you are responsible for appearing in court if your violation is not resolved prior to your court date. See Who Can I Talk to About the Violation Notice?
CVB Violation Notice
  1. What is Forfeiture?
The forfeiture amount is the scheduled fine for the violation. See Collateral Forfeiture Schedule
  2. What is Total Collateral?
The total collateral amount is the sum of the forfeiture amount and the processing fee. You may pay this amount prior to your court date to resolve your violation without a court hearing. See How Do I Pay My Violation Notice?
  3. Where is My Hearing?
Your hearing will be held in the U.S. district court in the district and division in which the violation occurred. The violation notice may include the address of the courthouse where the hearing is to be held. The notice to appear, issued to you by mail by the CVB 30 days before your scheduled hearing, will indicate the date, time, and location of the hearing.
