Karin J. Immergut has been confirmed as a United States District Judge for the District of Oregon. She began her service upon taking the oath of office on August 6, 2019.
Judge Immergut received her law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, after graduating from Amherst College. She began her legal career in private practice at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C., and later served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California. Upon moving to Oregon, Judge Immergut served as a Deputy District Attorney in the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office and as an Associate Independent Counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr.
In 2001, Judge Immergut joined the U.S. Attorney's Office as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and then led that office as the U.S. Attorney for the District Oregon (2003-2009). During her tenure as Oregon's U.S. Attorney, Judge Immergut also served as the Chair of the Attorney General's Advisory Committee. Most recently, Judge Immergut served as a Judge of the Multnomah County Circuit Court (2009-2019).
She fills the seat vacated by Judge Anna J. Brown, who assumed senior status on July 27, 2017.
